Joanne Nam

Joanne, real name Seohyun Nam, was born in Seoul, South Korea. As a teenager she moved to the USA with her family. He attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and now lives and works in Los Angeles. Among his passions are horror films and among his favorite artists Lucien Freud and Sandro Botticelli. The protagonists of Joanne Nam's oil paintings on wooden panels are young girls, asleep or dreaming, immersed in a dark and wild forest, the surreal materialization of their anxieties. A leaden color palette defines the backgrounds, against which the reflections of light and the lunar complexions of the women stand out. Joanne's works have a classic touch reminiscent of the Pre-Raphaelites and in particular the famous painting by John Everett Millais depicting the drowning of Ophelia, Hamlet's fiancée.
