Hiroaki Samura (Chiba Prefecture, February 17, 1970) is a Japanese cartoonist. He declares that he has always wanted to be a mangaka. However, unlike many of his colleagues, he attended an art academy and therefore had a classical artistic education, preferring to do black and white work rather than oil painting. He stated that he didn't like oil painting because of the smell of the colors and that he had help to get to the end of that course. However, he never completed the course as he was hired by Afternoon magazine before graduating to create the opera The Immortal. Samura's style is very dynamic, also thanks to his "scratched" line.
