John Cuneo  (born January 4, 1957) is an American  illustrator , whose work has appeared in many major publications, including  The New Yorker ,  Esquire ,  Sports Illustrated  and  The Atlantic Monthly . Franklin Christenson  " Chris "  Ware  (born December 28, 1967), [1]  is an American  cartoonist  known for his  Acme Novelty Library  series (begun 1994) and the graphic novels  Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth  (2000) and  Building Stories  (2012). His works explore themes of social isolation, emotional torment and depression. He tends to use a vivid color palette and realistic, meticulous detail. His lettering and images are often elaborate and sometimes evoke the ragtime era or another early 20th-century American design style. Ware often refers to himself in the publicity for his work in self-effacing, even withering tones. Lawson Wood, sometimes Clarence Lawson Wood, (23 August 1878 – 26 October 1957)

Lawson Wood , sometimes  Clarence Lawson Wood , (23 August 1878 – 26 October 1957), was an English painter, illustrator and designer known for humorous depictions of cavemen and dinosaurs, policemen, and animals, especially a chimpanzee called Gran'pop, whose annuals circulated around the world. Wood was decorated by the French for his gallantry at  Vimy Ridge  during  World War I . He was deeply concerned with animal welfare and was awarded membership in the  Royal Zoological Society  in 1934. His animal designs were reproduced as wooden toys and he established a sanctuary for aged creatures. In his later years, he was a recluse and died in  Devon  in 1957.

Joseph Christian Leyendecker (March 23, 1874 – July 25, 1951)

Joseph Christian Leyendecker  (March 23, 1874 – July 25, 1951) was a German-American illustrator. He is considered to be one of the preeminent American illustrators of the early 20th century. He is best known for his poster, book and advertising illustrations, the trade character known as  The Arrow Collar Man , and his numerous covers for  The Saturday Evening Post . [1] [2]  Between 1896 and 1950, Leyendecker painted more than 400 magazine covers. During the Golden Age of American Illustration, for  The Saturday Evening Post  alone, J. C. Leyendecker produced 322 covers, as well as many advertisement illustrations for its interior pages. No other artist, until the arrival of  Norman Rockwell  two decades later, was so solidly identified with one publication. [3]  Leyendecker "virtually invented the whole idea of modern magazine design." [4]

José Carlos de Brito e Cunha , known as  J. Carlos , (July 18, 1884 — October 2, 1950) was a Brazilian  cartoonist ,  illustrator  and  graphic designer . J. Einar Nerman  (6 October 1888 in  Norrköping  – 30 March 1983  Lidingö ) was a  Swedish  artist. He was born and grew up in middle-class family in the working-class city of  Norrköping  and was the younger brother of the Swedish  Communist  leader  Ture Nerman . Einar Nerman also had a twin brother,  Birger Nerman , who was an  archeologist .

He is known for his distinctive saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery. David Wiesner

David Wiesner  (born February 5, 1956) is an  American  illustrator and writer of  children's books , known best for  picture books  including some that tell stories without words. As an illustrator he has won three  Caldecott Medals  recognizing the year's "most distinguished American picture book for children" [1]  and he was one of five finalists in 2008 for the biennial, international  Hans Christian Andersen Award , the highest recognition available for creators of children's books. John Martin

John Martin  (19 July 1789 – 17 February 1854) [1]  was an English  Romantic  painter, engraver and illustrator. He was celebrated for his typically vast and melodramatic paintings of religious subjects and  fantastic  compositions, populated with minute figures placed in imposing landscapes. Martin's paintings, and the prints made from them, enjoyed great success with the general public—in 1821  Thomas Lawrence  referred to him as "the most popular painter of his day"—but were lambasted by  John Ruskin  and other critics.
